March poised to record unprecedented rainfall

A new spell of spring rains started in the country  which is likely to continue for four days till Sunday. During this spell, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) is expecting an average rainfall of 10-30 mm per day in most of the country.

In some areas, heavy rains are expected with thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorm. According to Met office rainfall may cross 100mm per day limit in regions including Malakand Division, Dir, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Haripur, Besham, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Kashmir.

“The mountains of 4,000 metre (13,000 feet) or higher elevations are likely to receive heavy snowfall during the next four days. As the previous week’s snowfall is still intact, the additional snowfall can cause avalanches,” the PMD Director General Dr Ghulam Rasul said.
